Christos Chryssopoulos

Christos Chryssopoulos (Athens 1968) is a novelist, essayist, translator, and photographer. He has authored 16 books, most notably the novels: “The Parthenon Bomber” (1996), “The London Day of Laura Jackson” (Prize of the Academy of Athens 2008), and “Flashlight Between the Teeth” (Prix Laure-Bataillon 2013), and volumes of essays and short stories. He is featured in many anthologies of contemporary Greek fiction and writes regularly on literary theory. Part of his work was translated into French, English, German, Italian, Turkish, Hungarian, Slovenian, Serbian, and Swedish. He has won several grants and was invited to writers’ centres in Europe and the USA. He is the founder and director of the international literary festival DASEIN in Athens. “Our city possesses one single, distinctive monument. An emblem that fulfills many functions, precisely because it’s unique. There’s no other identifiable landmark in the vicinity, and were we to lose that unique proof of our origins, that emblematic place we all believe belongs to us by right, then we would feel as though we were living in a foreign country.
